Big Things in Small Packages

We often see things the way we want to see them. There may be times when things don’t turn out as we planned and yet, we still work our way to see them in a positive light. Sometimes, the littlest of things could turn into great ones. With this in mind, we could feel the presence of God in our lives.

We often hear about the greatness of God in every step we take and in every person we encounter. People would endlessly talk about God’s greatness and how it has changed their lives, but have we ever asked ourselves where this greatness comes from? Haven’t we thought that it might come from the smallest change in people’s lives? Maybe some have noticed a change in their attitude because of their pet, or an improved outlook in life because of a pebble left at the doorstep.

Although it may seem ironic that a small thing could do great wonders, our being small and ordinary should even be a motivational factor for us to do greatness. People should be challenged to work with the little that they have and make the most out of it. This would definitely be difficult the first time around, but if you consistently and constantly believe that you can make a difference, you will be able to set ripples of change.

Roughly 2,000 years ago, a carpenter from Palestine spread the Good News of salvation to the sick, to the poor, to the Roman collaborators and to prostitutes. He sought to liberate with his embrace all who are tired, burdened and weary. 2,000 years later, his words and his parables still struggle to liberate us from the meaninglessness of today’s life.

Like the Parable of the Mustard Seed, God uses small instruments to change the world. Thus, it doesn’t matter how the world may belittle you as long as you know within yourself that you can make a difference—a difference that has power to influence and inspire others to be great even by doing small things.
