Solemnity of Sts. Peter and Paul, Apostles
Mt. 16:13-19

When I was younger in the faith, I used to mimic what others namely my parents and teachers say about it. Questions came flowing as I grew up. Being the person that I am, I looked for answers and eventually found them. Slowly but surely I began to claim these truths I learned as my own. But I guess the more important fruit of this journey is the process of making these truths manifest in every single aspect of my life. This is the more tricky part as it involves finding God in acts not even remotely related to religion.

This week’s gospel reminds me that my journey in the faith could have only been possible through grace. No matter who people say Jesus Christ is, if the grace to accept it has not been given to me, then those words would have fallen on deaf ears. In faith journeys, there are no mere coincidences just divine ones.

Moreover, this gospel also shows me the importance of making St. Peter’s words our own. In my prayer, I have seen Peter answering this question as-a-matter-of-factly, without guile and with not a speck of doubt. When others remained silent, he answered with great conviction. I pray that I may also do so when faced with a similar situation. But for now, I believe that my job is first to let this conviction resonate in all things I do and in the way I deal with the people of my life. It means being the best daughter, best sister, best friend, best worker, best citizen that I can be. This will be my personal little witness to the world.
